DETROIT WATER AND SEWERAGE DEPARTMENT

ROMEO ARM OF THE MACOMB SEWER INTERCEPTOR

November 19, 2004 Update

On Sunday, November 14th, crews completed the installation of the second steel bulkhead located to the west of the repair area, and are removing a mixture of sand and sludge from the interceptor.

Sixty-nine of 240 caissons have been installed in the sinkhole around the repair area. The caissons are being installed to a depth of 65-feet. Crews expect to have enough caissons in the sinkhole by Tuesday, November 23rd to start excavating down to the interceptor. The excavation will start from the east and go west.

DWSD is making every effort to minimize the noise impact on the surrounding area while installing the caissons.
