ROMEO ARM OF THE MACOMB SEWER INTERCEPTOR

November 5, 2004 Update

Crews working in the access shaft to the west of the repair area have entered the interceptor and are continuing work on installing the second steel bulkhead.

Crews have started installing caissons in the sinkhole to the east and south of the repair area. The caissons, 3-feet in diameter, filled with concrete with a steel beam in the center, are being installed to a depth of 65-feet. After augers drill the holes for the caissons, a cylinder is placed in the hole and the steel beam and concrete are inserted. Crews will be working 24 hours a day to install approximately 250 caissons around the repair area.

DWSD will make every effort to minimize the noise impact on the surrounding area while installing the caissons.
