DETROIT WATER AND SEWERAGE DEPARTMENT

ROMEO ARM OF THE MACOMB SEWER INTERCEPTOR

October 22, 2004 Update

The department has installed electrical feeds for all equipment and has discontinued using generators except at one location. One 30-inch pump located east of Hayes Road is still temporarily operating with diesel power. The use of this generator should be discontinued by Tuesday, October 26th.

Work on installing the steel bulkhead in the interceptor east of the repair area is approximately 30 percent complete. Divers have entered the interceptor through an existing manhole and placed sand bags on both sides of where the steel bulkhead will be installed. Wastewater flow is being diverted through the two 36-inch bypasses. Divers are working 8-10 hours a day in the interceptor to install the bulkhead.

To the west of the repair area, an access shaft is being installed in preparation for installing the second bulkhead.
