ROMEO ARM OF THE MACOMB SEWER INTERCEPTOR

October 7, 2004 Update

DWSD is in process of installing the bulkhead east of the repair area in the interceptor. Divers install the bulkhead by diving into a manhole to reach the interceptor. When both bulkheads are installed, wastewater flow through the portion of the interceptor to be repaired will be stopped. Then metal sheeting will be installed to the south and north of the repair area, which will further stabilize the site. Crews can then begin digging down to the damaged portion of the interceptor.

To facilitate in the installation of the bulkhead a bladder was installed in the interceptor to prevent any backflow from entering the bypass.

An additional dewatering well is being installed east of the repair area.

Crews are sprinkling the ground daily to control dust at the construction site.
