DETROIT WATER AND SEWERAGE DEPARTMENT

ROMEO ARM OF THE MACOMB SEWER INTERCEPTOR

August 31, 2004 Update

A cement like mixture of grouting has been inserted into 19 holes around the broken interceptor to stabilize the ground.

Caissons and steel sheeting are being placed on the south side of 15 Mile Road. The sheeting will form a wall 50 feet deep and 176 feet long. Forty-two feet of sheeting is in place.

Five dewatering wells are in service to remove ground water from around the site.

DWSD is installing two 36-inch diameter pipes as a temporary sewer bypass while repairs are being done. The two sewers will replace the 6-foot bypass that was originally planned at the site, and will take less time to construct. One bypass line, 2700 feet long has been completed.
