DETROIT WATER AND SEWERAGE DEPARTMENT

ROMEO ARM OF THE MACOMB SEWER INTERCEPTOR

April 1, 2005 Update

The Macomb Interceptor was put back in service on March 14, 2005.

The trench has been back-filled to road level. A layer of sand has been put down and crews are completing the grading of the road. Next, crews will put down a layer of crushed stone to prepare the roadbed. The concrete at the intersection of Hayes and 15 Mile has been broken up in preparation for road restoration. Crews are also preparing the roads for restoration in the Villa Fontana Subdivision.

When the ground above the interceptor originally collapsed, there were two pipes located above the interceptor, a 12-inch sanitary sewer pipe and an 8-inch water main. The sanitary sewer pipe is back in service. The water main has been installed and crews are flushing the line prior to putting the main back in service.

All equipment and construction trailers at the repair site are being moved to the northeast corner of Hayes and 15 Mile.

The department has been monitoring homes south of the repair area once a week and has not detected any movement associated with the sinkhole repair.

Starting April 1, 2005, this site will be updated bi-weekly.
