Information Update Section

Customer Service Centers and Call Center number to be closed for Good Friday
Customers should note that the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department's Customer Service Centers will be closed on Friday, April 18 in observance of Good Friday. In addition, the main Customer Service Call Center number, 313-267-8000, will not be staffed that day. The Customer Service Centers and Call Center will reopen for business on Monday, April 21. DWSD regrets any inconvenience caused by the closure.

James Thrower

Commissioner James F. Thrower (fourth from right) receives a gift from the Board of Water Commissioners (BOWC) for his outstanding service over the past four years at the Board’s meeting on Wednesday, March 26. Thrower, who represents the city of Detroit and serves as the Board vice-chair, is approaching the end of his term as a commissioner. He was appointed to the BOWC in 2010. Attending the ceremony were (from left to right): John Cubba, Financial Advisor to the BOWC; Tarolyn Buckles, Technical Advisor to the BOWC; Commissioner Fred Barnes (Macomb County); Commissioner Linda Forte (Detroit); BOWC Chair James Fausone (Wayne County); Vice-Chair Thrower; Commissioner Bradley Kenoyer (Detroit); Detroit Water and Sewerage Department Director Sue F. McCormick; and Commissioner J. Bryan Williams (Oakland County). Commissioner Mary E. Detroit residents are required by state law to disconnect downspouts leading to the sanitary sewer system. This is a requirement of all Michigan cities. Water from downspouts connected to the sewer system can overload the sewer system and can pollute our rivers and cause basement flooding.

Naturalizing the Home Garden: Native Garden Design Workshops

Friends of the Rouge and the Alliance of Rouge Communities have teamed up to offer native garden design workshops to teach residents in the Rouge River drainage area how to garden with native wildflowers. Workshops will be held this spring in Novi, Bloomfield Hills, Livonia and Dearborn Heights.

Four Naturalizing the Home Garden: A Native Garden Design Workshops will be held across the Rouge River watershed to teach people how to select native plants that are right for the conditions in their yard and offer design tips for creating attractive gardens that appeal to us, reduce rainwater runoff, and provide nectar for birds and butterflies.

Optional expert assistance is available for a limited number of workshop attendees immediately following the workshop. Interested persons are encouraged to register early as space is limited. Registration is required for expert assistance. Registration is available online or by calling (313) 792-9621.

Workshop dates and locations:

Tuesday, April 15: 6:00–7:15pm at the Caroline Kennedy Library, 24590 George Avenue, Dearborn Heights.
